The Maldives and India have discussed expanding trade and investment ties between the two countries. The discussion was held between the newly appointed High Commissioner of the Maldives to India Ibrahim Shaheeb and the President of India Droupadi Murmu.
High Commissioner Shaheeb presented his Letter of Credence to President Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. During a meeting following the ceremony, High Commissioner Shaheeb conveyed greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as the government and people of the Maldives to President Murmu and the people of India.
Furthermore, High Commissioner Shaheeb expressed appreciation for the support received from India in the socio-economic development of the Maldives and conveyed commitment to work closely with the government of India and its people, with a renewed focus on taking the relationship to new heights, especially expanding trade and investment ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, President Murmu congratulated High Commissioner Shaheeb on his appointment and expressed hope to work closely with the Maldives in further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.
