Defence Minister visits Police Academy

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has visited the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City.

During the visit, Minister Mariya met with senior officers of the academy, toured and inquired about the arrangements of the academy, and signed the guestbook. The minister was accompanied by Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal and senior Officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The development of the police academy was funded by the government of India in 2009. The academy was officially inaugurated in March 2022 by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The 34th Police Training Course with 197 recruits marked the official start of the training school in August this year.

The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement is developed to cater to a capacity of 340 students. The academy is equipped with medical, sports, and physical training facilities, including a gymnasium and 400m running track. The academy will also have a helipad to land helicopters. The academy is developed with modern facilities and the training will be conducted in accordance with democratic principles and modern best practices.
