Gov't to assess health status of citizens

Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has said that a special programme will be launched early next year to assess the health status of citizens.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Naseem said the extent of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in the country has not been identified yet. He said many individuals do not seek health care in the early stages of the disease although a lot of people are exposed to many diseases such as cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney diseases. He noted the health conditions of individuals are not recorded in the Maldives. He, therefore, said a special programme to identify the status of NDCs will be conducted early next year.

Furthermore, Minister Naseem also said that the health record in the country is not being maintained properly. He stressed the importance of maintaining health records or statistics while the country is making efforts to reduce or eliminate some diseases. He, therefore, said a digital system will be established to maintain health records.

The government has also launched the 25-30 Campaign to reduce the number of NCDs in the Maldives to 25% and aims to achieve that goal by 2030.
