Ministry of Finance has opened bids seeking contractors to build health centres in Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll and Feeali in Faafu Atoll.
The finance ministry stated that the tender for the two health centers will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the construction contractors of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the rules for awarding construction work by national tenders, and the Foreign Direct Investment Policy of the Ministry of Economic and Development.
Additionally, the finance ministry stated that the bid security for the construction of the health centre in Thoddoo is USD31,000 and USD8,000 as the bid security for the construction of the health centre in Feeali. The ministry stated that the selection process will be conducted on the basis of National Competitive Bidding Rules and a non-refundable registration fee of USD33 should be paid for each tender. The ministry has opened for bids for the two projects until December 20.
The government is making efforts to strengthen the health system in the Maldives. According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 21 Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects have been completed in the past four years including projects to increase the space of hospitals and health centres. There are currently 32 projects ongoing, with 25 projects in the tender stage. The budget for next year also includes USD36 million for the construction of new buildings for health centres and hospitals in various islands in the country.
