National progress depends on skilled workforce: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the progress of a nation depends on its ability to produce a skilled work force. He made the remarks at the graduation ceremony of the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Naseem applauded Dhiraagu and its executives for introducing such a socially beneficial programme and continuing it for 13 consecutive years in efforts to develop a skilled workforce. He shed light on a changing world where anything can happen at any time and stressed the importance of building a resilient and strong workforce.

Furthermore, Vice President Naseem emphasised the importance the administration attaches to the education sector and human resource development. In this regard, he spoke about the thousands of students benefiting from the free degree programme and vocational training programmes initiated by the administration. He also encouraged young people to never give up on their pursuit of learning new talents and to utilise the opportunities that are available to them.

During the ceremony, 15 apprentices graduated from the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme. It is the first corporate apprenticeship programme introduced in the Maldives. It is a key corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Dhiraagu with the objective of helping develop employability skills in Maldivian youth. The company has been conducting the apprenticeship programme since 2009, and a total of 247 young people have enrolled in the programme.
