Over USD130 million spend on infrastructure development of Fenaka

Fenaka Corporation Limited has revealed more than USD130 million have been spent on its infrastructure development in the past four years.

As part of efforts of Fenaka Corporation to improve the quality of services provided in the atolls, 66 powerhouses have been upgraded to modern standards during the past four years. Fenaka currently provides services to more than 150 islands in the Maldives including electricity, water, and sewerage services.

Speaking to PSM News regarding works of the past four years, Managing Director Ahmed Saeed said when the current administration took over, essential services provided to the islands were not secure and quality. Saeed said since the government took office, solutions have been found to challenges and issues faced by residents. He said over USD130 million has been spent on infrastructure development in the past four years. These included modernisation of old powerhouses, the construction of new office buildings, and various projects to increase the electricity capacity of islands.

Fenaka has been building new powerhouses away from communities, upgrading electricity networks, and opening offices in the atolls. There were 66 powerhouses that had become a problem for local communities when the administration took office. However, in the past few years, these powerhouses have been moved and developed away from residential areas.
