Aviation Security Command of the Maldives (AVSECOM) has announced the deadline for the validation of expired travel documents for domestic flights.
Director General of AVSECOM Hussain Nazeef signed a circular to inform airport operators and local airline operators that February 22 is the deadline for use of expired travel documents on domestic flights. After that date, domestic flights will accept expired documents for identification.
Passengers were able to use the documents to purchase airline tickets and identify themselves at check-in points as there are difficulties obtaining some documents that have expired to address the difficulties in obtaining identification documents due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Expired identity document (ID) cards, passports, work visa cards, license cards, airport security passes, and photographs and ID card numbered official documents issued by a government agency were also used for domestic travel, according to AVESCOM.
The government has already revealed how to use expired documents in some other services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
