Judge of the High Court of the Maldives Shuaib Zakariyya has decided to retire. The High Court revealed that Judge Zakariyya will be resigning from November 22 onward, after serving the court for 11 years.
Judge Zakariyya has served in various positions including as a Legal Officer at the Ministry of Justice, a Special Judge, a Judge at the Family Court, and as the Chief Judge of the Civil Court and the Juvenile Court. He received his first law degree in 1977 and has achieved a Master of Comparative Law at the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Zakariyya’s retirement comes at a time when the High Court opened applications for the vacant position at the judges’ bench following the honorable resignation of Chief Judge Hathif Hilmy. He retired from the post after serving for two years since 2019.
