Gov’t to assist in expanding tourism in Isdhoo

The Ministry of Tourism has agreed to assist Isdhoo in Laamu Atoll to expand the local tourism sector.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Tourism Dr. Ahmed Solih and President of Isdhoo Island Council Ibrahim Khaleel. Under the agreement, the tourism ministry will assist the Isdhoo Island Council to handle the various tasks required to open land plots for bidding and drafting the award letters and agreements.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, State Minister Solih said the tourism ministry is committed to assisting the islands expand its local tourism sector and that the ministry will be providing its expertise to Isdhoo under the agreement. He said the ministry will provide assistance in choosing land plots and assist in the planning and design process.

Meanwhile, the President of Isdhoo Island Council Khaleel said the island is rich in history and has many opportunities for tourism businesses. He expressed hope that the new initiatives will allow the residents to become more self-sufficient, just as the local agricultural sector has done.

The tourism ministry stated that it has signed such agreements with two local councils and that it will continue to provide assistance to other councils that have not signed any agreement.
