Saudi Arabia allows Maldivians to gain experience at marina

Saudi Arabia has given the opportunity to the Maldivian youth to gain work experience at the gulf kingdom’s yacht marina.

A total of 13 participants of the programme have departed for Saudi Arabia for a two-month period. The programme is conducted by the Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) and Dubai-based JLS Yachts LLC.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MITDC Mohamed Raaid said the programme is part of the efforts to expand yacht tourism in the Maldives by increasing public interest in working in the industry and replacing the current foreign workers with Maldivians.

Principal of the JLS Training Centre in Thulusdhoo Ahmed Naushad said the opportunity to join the programme was given to those with the license to operate vessels and those who have also completed the powerboat training programme. He said more such opportunities will be provided in the future and the training centre will continue to expand its sailing course.

Furthermore, MITDC has opened the opportunity for 10 individuals in the sailing industry to participate in a training programme abroad.
