High Court begins trial with all female judges’ bench

High Court of the Maldives has begun a trial with an all-female bench of judges.

The High Court consists of 11 judges, out of which three are women. They are Fathimath Faruheeza, Huzaifa Mohamed, and Dheebanaz Fahmy. Every trial held by the High Court is presided over by a bench of three judges.

The three female judges are now on the bench which is presiding over a trial to settle a dispute regarding transactions made between a private party and the Mauritius Commercial Bank (Maldives) Private Limited.

Two female judges were also appointed to the Supreme Court of the Maldives. They are Justice Azmiralda Zahir and Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed. Statistics from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) show that the number of female judges have increased in the past few years.
