Addu City Council has held a forum titled Addu Status and Stakeholder Engagement in an effort to promote tourism in the southernmost city.
Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of State for Tourism Dr. Ahmed Solih, Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Abdulla Sadig, and Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar participated in the forum.
Speaking to PSM News, Mayor Nizar stated the main aim of the forum is to provide a platform for all stakeholders to meet and discuss promoting Addu as a tourist destination. He said promotional activities were discussed during the forum. He said there are many challenges to further expanding tourism in Addu, adding the forum has conducted extensive debates among stakeholders on how to expand tourism despite the challenges. He said the launch of direct flights of Fly Dubai to Addu will definitely boost tourism in the city this year noting the initiative will facilitate the travel of more tourists to the city.
The government has initiated promoting tourism in Addu. As such, the government expects to develop 8,000 beds in the city.
