MMA launches reprint of MVR50 with new symbol

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has launched a reprint of the Rufiyaa 50 with the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol printed on both sides of the banknote.

MMA determined the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol to be used on banknotes in July 2021. MMA stated that the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol will be included with the face value at the top left of the note and with the face value at the top left of the back of the note.

The new banknote was signed by the Governor of MMA Ali Hashim. The date on the note will be September 8, 2022. MMA said a date for the circulation of the notes would be announced soon.

The Ran Dhihafaheh note series was launched in 2015 and is the third banknote series to be introduced in the Maldives. The series consisting of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 Rufiyaa notes was introduced into circulation in 2016. The five Rufiyaa note was added to the series in 2017. According to some of the security features of these notes, the serial number will be illuminated by ultraviolet (UV) light. The face value of the note will also be illuminated in UV light and cannot be visible through ordinary light.
