Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has conveyed condolences to India and Bangladesh following the fire incident that occurred on November 10 in Male’ City.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Minister Shahid spoke on the phone with the Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. S. Jaishankar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen after the incident. He conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased in the fire incident. He also informed me that a full investigation is underway.
On Twitter, Minister Jaishankar expressed grief at the tragic loss of lives in the fire incident. He said full details regarding the victims are being ascertained by the High Commission of India in the Maldives, which is contacting affected families and closely working with Maldivian authorities on the matter. The Indian High Commission stated that Maldivian authorities have confirmed that seven of the deceased were Indian nationals and the identity of one person is still being confirmed.
The fire incident occurred at Maafannu Nirufehige in Male' on the morning of November 10, which caused the death of 10 individuals. The incident is the most deadly fire incident to occur in the Maldives.
