President calls for inspection of accommodations for foreign workers

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has directed the relevant authorities to inspect the accommodation arrangements of foreign workers. He gave the instructions following the fire incident that occurred on November 10 in Male’ City.

During a meeting with senior officials of the relevant government agencies, President Solih inquired about the response following the fire. The President called on the relevant authorities to conduct swift investigations to determine the cause of the fire and asked the officials to ensure transparency in disclosing information to the public. He also instructed authorities to expedite the identification of the deceased and assist those affected by the fire.

Additionally, President Solih directed the relevant authorities to strengthen their efforts to inspect the accommodation arrangements of foreign workers and draw up a plan to relocate workshops and vehicle garages in residential areas. He also assured that the administration will take steps to prevent the repetition of such incidents.

The fire incident occurred at Maafannu Nirufehige in Male' on the morning of November 10, which caused the death of 10 individuals. The incident is the most deadly fire incident to occur in the Maldives.
