EPA urges public to keep away from scene of fire

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged the public to keep away from the scene of the fire incident that occurred at Maafannu Nirufehige in Male' City on the morning of November 10, which caused the death of 10 individuals. The incident is the most deadly fire incident to occur in the Maldives.

Speaking to PSM News, Director General Ibrahim Naeem said the fire resulted in the burning of aluminum and toxic gas being released in the area, such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. He said authorities are determining the types of gas released and that the public should keep away from the area. He said that there is a high amount of gas in the area, causing immediate irritation to the nose and eyes and that the best course of action is to wear masks in situations individuals need to enter the scene and leave as soon as possible.

The fire incident occurred inside the garage of the building. The relevant authorities have stated that entering the scene of the fire incident is a hindrance to the officials active in the area.
