Japan to provide USD174,200 for Himmafushi Health Centre upgrade

The government of Japan will be providing USD174,200 to upgrade the Himmafushi Health Centre.

The project to upgrade the health centre was launched by the Government of Japan and Himmafushi Health Centre under the Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme. The agreement was signed by Senior Administrator of Himmafushi Health Centre Abdulla Shafeeu and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori.

Under the project, Japan will provide financial assistance to develop new facilities with an emergency room, laboratory, X-ray room, and two rooms at the health centre. The new facilities are expected to increase the number of tests being conducted at the health centre as well as expand radiology services.

The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
