Tourist arrival target to be reached by December 15

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) stated that the target of attracting 1.6 million tourists will be achieved by December 15, 2022.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has set a target of 1.6 million tourist visits this year and MMPRC made numerous efforts to achieve that target. He said the number of tourist arrivals is increasing and the target of 1.6 million will be achieved between December 10-15. He said so far 1.3 million tourists have visited the Maldives. He added the achievement is a joint effort by industry stakeholders along with the involvement of MMPRC.

The efforts to promote the Maldives to new markets and attract tourists by participating in various fairs online and virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic are showing positive results, according to MMPRC. Before the pandemic, tourists were arriving in the Maldives only from certain markets. However, MMPRC said tourist arrivals to the Maldives are increasing from emerging markets as a result of joint marketing campaigns, outdoor advertising campaigns, participation in fairs, and hosting of webinars and e-learning programmes across the world.
