Gov't says tourism record broken in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the highest number of tourist arrivals in October of any year was recorded in 2022.

The tourism ministry said the new record was achieved with the cooperation of travel and tourism industry partners, employees, and other stakeholders. During the same period each year, 137,488 tourists visited the Maldives in 2019, 20,492 tourists in 2020, and 136,298 in 2021, according to the ministry. In October 2022, 153,600 tourists visited the country which is an 8% increase over the past 3 years.

Meanwhile, tourists visiting the Maldives in the first 10 months of 2022 have also increased compared to the first 10 months of 2021. The ministry also said there were one million tourists in 2019 and 1.3 million tourists during the same period this year.

The top three countries with the highest number of tourist arrivals this year are India, Russia, and the United Kingdom (UK). The government aims to attract 1.6 million tourists this year.
