Kendhoo Island Council has announced that the coastal protection project in Kendhoo, Baa Atoll, has been completed.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) began the Kendhoo Coastal Protection Project on June 10. The project was contracted to MTCC at a price of USD2.6 million. The project involved the construction of an 803m breakwater, 80m revetment, and 90m groynes. The project also involved the development of a swimming area. Kendhoo Island Council stated the swimming area has been developed and workers are now filling the area with sand.
Speaking to PSM News, President of Kendhoo Island Council Ibrahim Abdul Rahman said the construction of coastal protection structures has eased the concerns of residents. He said the coast was developed to be appealing to tourists and that the barriers were placed in a way that does not clash with the beach. It further stated that a large part of the beach has already been eroded but that the coastal protection project is a huge step towards developing the island.
The government has also commenced other projects in Kendhoo, including establishing water supply and sewerage services, constructing a building for Fenaka Corporation Limited, constructing an extension building for the school, and the developing of a football field.
