Investors are most interested in Maldives: Tourism minister

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed that global investors are most interested in doing business in the Maldives. He made the remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Maldives Investment Forum 2022.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mausoom said all countries are facing difficulties in receiving investments. He highlighted that the tourism sector makes up 46% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Maldives and that the GDP per capita was USD275 in 1980 and USD10,540 in 2019. He said stakeholders of the tourism sector should consider assisting the nation by providing more opportunities for foreign investment. He also noted the important role accountants play in the economy and highlighted the importance of increasing human resource development in the accounting sector.

The Maldives Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting Award was introduced at the opening ceremony of the Maldives Investment Forum 2022.
