Huravee parking area to hold over 200 motorcycles

Male’ City Council has said that a parking area has been established on the land where the Huravee Building was demolished.

Mayor of Male' City Council Mohamed Muizzu said the parking area can accommodate over 200 motorcycles. The council is working to solve the parking problems and additional parking zones have been created following the Raajje Link Transport (RTL) minibus service.

The four-storey Huravee Building was built using coral as the construction material in the early years of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's administration. The demolition of the building, which housed many government offices, began in May 2021. The site has now been vacated and work is underway to build a public park. Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam had said previously the park will open on November 11.

The decision to demolish Huravee was initially made in 2010 during former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration. However, the plan was not implemented as there were no other buildings to transfer the government offices at the time.
