Majeediyya School has celebrated members of its staff that had served the school for over 25 years.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said Majeediyya School is an important cornerstone of the Maldivian education sector, as many of its graduates have moved on to serving the nation. She highlighted that many notable state officials had studied at Majeediyya School. She also recognised the challenges Majeediyya School has faced in its last 50 years and said it needs to compete with other schools and match their activities and efforts in order to have a prosperous future.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented plaques of appreciation to six staff at the function held to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Majeediyya School. They were Mohamed Waheed Najeeb, Ismail Ali, Mariyam Gasim, Aishath Abdulla Naseem Mohamed, Mohamed Abdulla Sodiq, and Shirumeena Abdulla.
At the ceremony, First Lady Fazna Ahmed presented plaques of appreciation to 14 staff members who have served the school for over 20 years, while Vice President Faisal Naseem presented plaques to 14 private partners who have supported the school over the years, including Public Service Media (PSM). Minister Aishath presented plaques to 10 recipients that have provided assistance to the school in various ways. President Solih also received a coffee book and a model of the historic Majeediyya School hall while First Lady Fazna, Vice President Naseem, and Minister Aishath received illustrations from students.
Majeediyya School was founded under the name Madharusathul Salahiyya in 1927 as the country’s first government school. The school first opened with 60 students and now teaches around 1,500 students. All Maldivian presidents so far have been graduates of the school.
