Water usage in Male’ higher than estimated

Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has stated the water usage for the ever-growing population in the Greater Male’ Region is higher than estimated.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Hassan Shah said MWSC upgrades its systems after analysing water usage and creating estimates. He, however, noted that water usage has been increasing more than estimated in the past few years, compelling the company to upgrade its systems quickly and increase capacity and production.

Managing Director Shah said some had speculated that the water usage in Male’ City would be reduced as more people move to Hulhumale’, but the reality was that water usage has been consistently increasing in the region for the past few years. He added that there is an urgent need to increase the capacity in Hulhumale’ and that more upgrades would need to be conducted after Male’ City is connected to Gulhifalhu.

MWSC has been making efforts to upgrade its systems due to the increasing water usage and is currently producing 40,300 tonnes of water in the Greater Male’ Region every day.
