MCS to provide medical treatment unavailable to prisoners

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has begun preparations to provide medical treatment that are unavailable to prisoners.

The special operation aims to transfer prisoners to hospitals and health centres to provide specialist services that are unavailable at prisons. The operation will commence on October 29.

The officers involved in the operation will escort prisoners as they travel to hospitals and health centres, make doctor’s appointments, and complete medical tests. All prison officers will be involved in the operation, including first-class officers and other high-ranking officers. The senior management will be joining the operation in order to determine the challenges in escorting prisoners and find systematic solutions.
