Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has revealed the development of the harbour under the Felivaru Fisheries Complex development project will be completed by March 2023.
The development of the harbour was scheduled to be completed by January 2023. However, MIFCO stated the work has been delayed after making changes to the design. The company stated three harbours will be developed in Felivaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, to facilitate an export jetty, a fish processing jetty, and a local jetty. It stated changes were made to the design of the export jetty to allow the largest vessels of State Trading Orgnisation (STO) to dock. It added the local jetty has been built and sheet piling work is being conducted for the export jetty and fish processing jetty.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated land reclamation and harbour development is 51% complete while the construction of the revetment is 93% complete. The company has reclaimed six hectares of land for the project.
The Felivaru Fisheries Complex upgrading project, which is carried out under the assistance of the EXIM Bank of India, includes the development of a 4000MT cold storage facility, a 200MT brine freezing facility, an 80MT refrigerated seawater facility, as well as 100MT fish processing factory.
