Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has said the National Apprenticeship Programme will train 3,000 youths by 2023.
Consultant at the Youth Ministry Ahmed Nisham said 14 companies are currently participating in the programme. He said agreements will also be signed with private companies to conduct the programme. Additionally, he said the programme will soon be expanded to the tourism industry with two resorts already expressing interest. Each of these resorts has offered 100 opportunities.
Furthermore, Nisham said the programme has provided 867 opportunities from various companies, adding that 336 individuals are already working in the companies under the programme. He said the target is expected to be reached within the next year.
The government launched the programme in 2021 to train youth from state-owned and private companies. A total of 25 individuals have so far completed training and 22 of them have been hired by the company that held the programme.
