Oman to invest in Maldivian tourism sector

The Maldives and Oman have discussed increasing investment in the Maldivian tourism sector. The discussions took place during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Heritage and Tourism of Oman Salem Bin Mohammed Al-Mahrouqi.

Minister Shahid is visiting Oman as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. During the meeting, Minister Shahid highlighted that the year 2022 is being celebrated in the Maldives as the golden jubilee of tourism in the Maldives and briefed Minister Al-Mahrouqi about the development of tourism in the Maldives over the past half-century. Minister Shahid also commended Minister Al-Mahrouqi on the thriving tourism industry of Oman in line with its 2040 National Tourism Strategy.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed the importance of increasing people-to-people contact between the two countries and Minister Shahid expressed the desire of the Government of the Maldives to see more Omani investments in the Maldivian tourism sector. They also assured the commitment of both countries to enhance cooperation in the area of tourism.
