The Maldives and Oman have discussed strengthening cooperation in various sectors. The discussions took place during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.
Minister Shahid is visiting Oman as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. During the meeting, Minister Shahid conveyed greetings and good wishes from President Solih to the leadership and the people of Oman, and handed over a letter from President Solih addressed to the Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq.
During the meeting, both ministers reflected on the close historical relationship between the two countries, rooted in cultural and historical links and shared Islamic values. They discussed avenues to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries and underscored the importance of promoting people-to-people contact. They also discussed means to strengthen cooperation in the fields of tourism, trade, investment, and education and reiterated the commitment of both governments to continue working closely together, bilaterally and in the international fora, on issues of shared importance.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Oman were established in 1981 and this year marks the 41st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
