State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has stated that it has not received a permit from the Male’ City Council to fix a leak on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ City.
A pipe used to extract saltwater for STELCO had burst under the asphalt road, resulting in a continuous leak. The company stated that it has still not received a permit to fix the issue. However, Male’ City Council stated that it has ordered the company to fix the leak multiple times.
STELCO stated it conducted tests at the site of the leak, which is on Boduthakurufaanu Magu near STELCO Gate Number 2, and determined that an outflow pipe used for the cooling system at the powerhouse was damaged. The company stated it made the necessary preparations and requested the city council for a permit to begin the work to fix the leak. It stated that the city council has still not given any official approval, despite attempts to hold discussions with all relevant parties in the council.
STELCO warned that delaying the work will result in further hindrances for the public and the company having to shut down the largest generator in Male' City. The company urged the city council to give its approval as soon as possible.
