Austrian Airlines has decided to begin direct flights to the Maldives.
The airline will operate winter flights between Vienna International Airport and Velana International Airport (VIA) and will begin operating three flights every week.
More than 17,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Austria as of September 2022, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Direct flights from the airlines are expected to increase the number of tourist arrivals from European countries.
The number of tourists visiting the Maldives is increasing again despite the sharp decline in travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Austrian Airlines is preparing to launch flights to 60 destinations during the winter season.
