Maldives Police to work in Interpol HQ for first time

Maldives Police Service (MPS ) has got the opportunity to work at the headquarters of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) in Lyon, France.

In a tweet making the announcement, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed revealed an officer from MPS will second a serving Chief Inspector to the Headquarters of Interpol for three years. Hameed added the officer selection has been completed by Interpol and will be deployed by end of the year to work in a specialist crime unit.

Furthermore, Hameed stated the opportunity demonstrates the contribution of the Maldives to enhance the global effort to fight crime and this would put the MPS flag high among others in the international arena, and pave way for MPS to further develop its capacity and capabilities.

Interpol is an inter-governmental organisation with 195 member countries. MPS has worked with Interpol on different crimes. However, it is the first time MPS has had the opportunity to work directly at the Interpol headquarters.
