Saudi Embassy sponsors MMC Journalism Awards

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the Maldives has signed an agreement as a support partner of the Journalism Awards of the Maldives Media Council (MMC).

The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives Matrek Abdullah Al-Ajalin Aldosari and the President of MMC Mohamed Shafau. It is the first time a foreign embassy has sponsored the annual MMC Journalism Awards.

MMC hosts the Journalism Awards to uphold the work of individuals who show excellence and make valuable contributions to the field of journalism. The nominations were asked to be submitted for two categories and 12 fields this year. As such, the awards will be presented to journalists in 12 fields of the news article and broadcasting categories. The fields include investigative journalism, the social sector, the legal and judicial sector, the business sector, the sports sector, photo and video journalism, graphics and illustrations, and feature reports. The awards will also be given to the best upcoming journalist and the best journalist of 2022.

The nominees are required to be Maldivian journalists who worked at a registered media company for a minimum of nine months between January 1 and December 31. The journalists can only be nominated for one of the fields.

Sponsors of the awards include Euro Marketing Private Limited as Contributing Partner, Dhiraagu as Digital Partner, Ooredoo as Telecommunication Partner, and Crowe as Auditing Partner. The awards ceremony will be held in November.
