Over 95% of projects under presidential pledges are ongoing

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has stated that over 95% of the projects commenced under presidential pledges are ongoing.

Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister Ameer said the projects are ongoing despite the challenges the government has faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the global economy. He said a large number of new projects will be allocated in next year’s state budget including projects to develop hospitals and the health sector.

The President’s Office has also stated that a large part of next year’s budget will be dedicated to the development of the health sector and that funds will be allocated to complete the remaining work to develop tertiary hospitals in five regions.

Furthermore, Minister Ameer said funds will be allocated to reclaim land in the Greater Male’ Region next year, as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge to solve the housing issue, noting that the loan agreement to reclaim land in Gulhifalhu has been signed.

Delivering the presidential address, President Solih announced that 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru, Kaafu Atoll, will be provided to residents from Male’ City. The president also said the development of 5,000 housing units in Hulhumale' are ongoing.
