Funds for PSIP projects allocated in accordance with progress

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has said that the funds required for the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) in the islands are being allocated in accordance with the progress of the projects. He made the statement in response to a question posed in the Parliament of the Maldives regarding funds for PSIP projects not being handed over to the local councils as per Article 69 of the Decentralisation Act.

Responding to the question, Minister Ameer said projects worth less than USD323,000 can be implemented by island councils, and projects worth less than USD970,000 can be implemented by city councils as per the Decentralisation Act. He said smaller projects worth USD323,000 will be awarded by the authority in charge of the project.

Additionally, Minister Ameer said the Ministry of Finance is responsible for the tendering phase and the disbursement of funds after the project is awarded. He said the ministry is allocating funds to the councils as the projects progress.
