MMPRC to conduct more campaigns to increase tourist arrivals

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has revealed it has planned numerous marketing campaigns to increase tourist arrivals.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Mohamed Thoyyib said MMPRC also plans to focus on infrastructure development and collaborating with industry partners, which will significantly benefit the private sector and the government.

MMPRC has been conducting joint campaigns with airlines, international travel agencies, and tourism-related companies in countries including Italy and India to promote the Maldives as a top travel destination. The state-owned company has drastically changed its marketing strategy since the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the complete halt of tourist arrivals from China. Currently, the highest number of tourist arrivals are from India and Russia, resulting in marketing campaigns being focused on these regions. MMPRC stated it aims to maintain the tourist arrival numbers and also expand marketing campaigns to Italy, the United States (US), and France.

The latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show a 38% increase in tourist arrivals in 2022, compared to the same period last year. The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 1.2 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far, which is a significant increase compared to the 915,305 arrivals recorded in 2021. The statistics also show that the Maldives recorded over 100,000 monthly tourist visits, with the highest number of arrivals recorded at 150,748 in March.
