Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that paper tickets will be sold for the minibus services offered under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and Laamu Atoll.
MTCC revealed paper tickets will be sold from October 14 onwards to offer convenience to elderly people. In addition, online ticketing for bus services is made available from the RTL website and mobile application, and Visa cards can also be used in all regions.
MTCC launched the RTL bus service in Addu, Fuvahmulah, and Laamu Atoll as part of efforts to establish a better public transport system across the Maldives. The bus services were launched in these regions as part of a 50-year service agreement signed by MTCC. Meanwhile, minibus services were launched in Greater Male' Region on September 5.
MTCC revealed paper tickets will be sold on the bus and paper tickets will not be sold at the terminals. MTCC said passengers will also be able to purchase paper tickets, but they will have to provide the exact amount, as the buses do not have the means to make changes, which is in accordance with best practices to ensure buses travel on schedule.
MTCC brought in 41 minibuses to the Maldives to begin bus services in the Greater Male’ Region and the atolls. As such, 23 of these buses were transferred to atolls with 13 buses sent to Addu, four buses transferred to Fuvahmulah, and another six buses transferred to Laamu Atoll. MTCC deployed 18 minibuses in the Greater Male' Region.
Persons over 65 years of age and children under three will be able to ride the minibuses for free after they present their identification cards, while persons with disabilities will need to present a card from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). Students will also be able to use the service if they are wearing their school uniforms.
