Japan to conduct survey to upgrade Male’ seawall and drainage system

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has signed an agreement with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) to conduct surveys to upgrade the seawall and stormwater drainage system in Male’ City.

The agreement was signed by Director General at the Planning Ministry Ahmed Tholhath and the Head of JICA’s Preparatory Survey Team Hideaki Matsumoto. JICA will be conducting the surveys as part of the agreement.

The streets of Male’ experience flooding due to rain, causing damage to vehicles and household property. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is frequently called on to pump the water as there is currently no long-term solution to prevent flooding in the city despite numerous attempts by previous governments.
