Census 2022 expected to be completed by October18

Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) has revealed that the Census 2022 is expected to be completed by October 18.

After completing the census fieldwork, MBS will be collecting data from locations that have not yet been entered. MBS said the fieldwork for the census has been completed in all parts of the country except for the Greater Male' Region. The bureau previously noted that there are about 900 locations in the Greater Male' Region that are not accessible. As such, data cannot be collected due to the inability to enter locked areas and to meet a person who can provide information and teams not being able to make an appointment at the scheduled times.

Furthermore, MBS said it is working to facilitate contact with people from locations that have not been accessed so far. It urged the public to provide details on the households and establishments by calling the hotline. Enumerators will respond to the calls and continue to gather information on the households and establishments. In addition, MBS asked those in charge of such unregistered locations to call its hotline.

Additionally, MBS has appealed to all citizens to cooperate with the census as the information collected is crucial for national development. The nationwide census is conducted every 10 years to assess the situation of the country and collect information to facilitate the planning of future projects. The provisional results were originally scheduled for October 6, but instead of releasing the provisional results separately, the permanent results will be released on October 20 as already scheduled.
