Shades to be installed in all bus stops by the end of 2022

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that shades will be installed in all bus stops under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) by the end of 2022.

The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service began in Male’ City on September 5. However, passengers currently have to wait at un-shaded bus stops. In order to solve the issue, MTCC began fabricating shades at the Thilafushi dockyard and installing them at the bus stops.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim said shades will be installed in all bus stops within the year. He noted there are 41 bus stops in the Greater Male’ Region and many of the bus stops are in congested areas. He, therefore, said it was difficult to establish modern and spacious bus stops but that MTCC will build the most adequate bus stop as is allowed, considering the circumstances.

The minibus routes have been established to make it easy for school students, office workers, and individuals travelling to hospitals to reach their destinations within 10 minutes from the farthest bus stops. The bus routes are interconnected to areas in Henveiru and Maafannu and each bus stop is a five-minute walk away from the other. MTCC is using 18 minibuses to make ten-minute stops at bus stops established on three routes, which are the Orchid route, Sosun route, and Ameenee route.
