Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has revealed that drug offences were the largest number of cases submitted to the office and to the court for prosecution.
The monthly statistics show that PGO accepted 60 of the 214 submitted cases. The PGO rejected 36 cases, sent back 70 cases for further clarification and is evaluating 48 cases. A total of 61 cases sent to the PGO were regarding drug offences.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) made the most requests for prosecution with the submission of 202 cases. Anti-Corruption Corruption (ACC) sent 10 cases and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) sent two cases.
The PGO submitted 214 cases to the courts in September, out of which 55 cases were sent to the Drug Court, 37 were sent to the Criminal Court, and the rest of the cases were sent to the atoll magistrate courts. The courts have ruled in favour of the state in 103 cases.
