Gov't urges Maldives to maintain golden status to expand tourism

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated the Maldives must maintain the golden status to further expand the tourism industry. He made the statement while speaking at the Raa Tourism Expo 2022 awards ceremony held in Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll. The exposition, initiated by the Raa Atoll Council, was held as part of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of tourism in the Maldives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mausoom said the Maldives is now an example for the whole world and a destination for everyone as the country marks the golden year of tourism. He said one of the biggest achievements is that the Maldives is ranked as the number one destination. He said it is important to work towards maintaining the status to further flourish the tourism industry.

Noting the success of the Maldivian tourism industry is an example to be followed by the whole world, Minister Mausoom said the government took the initiative to open the borders while ensuring the safety of the tourists at a time the whole world was locked down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted it showed the world that tourism can be resumed despite the challenges of COVID-19.

In conclusion, Minister Mausoom said it was a great pleasure to appreciate the services of Raa Atoll to the tourism industry. He further said the staff working in the tourism sector of the Maldives should always be appreciated for their outstanding services.
