Hithadhoo Shore Protection Project to be completed in early 2023

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated the Hithadhoo Shore Protection Project will be completed in early 2023.

The Hithadhoo Shore Protection Project was officially inaugurated by Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aslam said the project is small compared to the major projects being implemented by the government in Addu City. He, however, said it is a long-awaited project for residents of the island. He also said one of the most frequently submitted issues to the ministry is erosion and said the shore protection project would solve the issues. The residents of Hithadhoo have expressed concern over the erosion on the northwest side which has caused damage to households in the area.

MTCC has been awarded the project to protect the west side of Hithadhoo at a cost of USD756,000. The scope of the project includes building a 100m breakwater, and a 570m geotube revetment.
