Tourist arrivals increase by 38% in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has recorded a 38% increase in tourist arrivals in 2022.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 1.2 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a significant increase compared to the 878,317 arrivals recorded in the same period last year.

The statistics show that 131,764 tourists arrived in the Maldives in January, 149,008 visitors arrived in February, 150,739 visitors arrived in March, 145,279 visitors arrived in April, 125,522 visitors arrived in May, 110,889 visitors arrived in June, and 133,561 visitors arrived in July. It also shows 131,862 arrivals in August, which is a decrease compared to the same month last year, but 114,984 arrivals were recorded in September, which is an increase.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India, with 14% of the market share. The second highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 12% of the market share, and the third highest number of tourists visited from the United Kingdom (UK) with 11% of the market share.

The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldivian tourism industry this year, while the tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry expect to welcome 1.6 million tourists.
