Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the ultra-low-fare national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has begun flight operations to the Maldives.

A special ceremony was held to welcome the passengers of the first Wizz Air flight, which landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) on October 4. Those who welcomed the passengers included Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Mahjoob Shujau.

In a statement, Wizz Air stated it has launched two new routes from Abu Dhabi to the Maldives and Kuwait. It stated that the new routes will offer travellers the opportunity to explore more destinations in line with its ambition to provide tourists and residents in the UAE and the region with convenient and affordable travel options. Tickets are on sale on its website and mobile application.

Wizz Air is operating flights four times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from Abu Dhabi to VIA with tickets priced at USD97. Flights to Kuwait and the Maldives are being operated on its brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft, which offers the lowest environmental footprint. The airline stated the expansion of its flight operations reaffirms its long-term commitment to offering ultra-low fares to a variety of diverse destinations from Abu Dhabi.
