Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has completed the investigation of 22 cases submitted to the Whistleblower Portal and has sent two cases for prosecution.
The portal was set up to report cases of corruption under the government’s zero-tolerance policy to address corruption in public institutions. More than 1,000 cases have been submitted to the portal which was launched in 2019. As such, 310 cases have been referred to ACC. The commission has decided to investigate 299 of the cases submitted.
There are many efforts being made by the government to stop corruption in the Maldives. Legal changes have been made encouraging the reporting of corruption cases and many complaints are being submitted to the portal created to file corruption cases. Complaints submitted to the portal include those related to ministries, state-owned companies, and councils. In addition, cases have been submitted to independent institutions, legal and judicial bodies, the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), and the Parliament of the Maldives.
