President’s Office publishes revised list of terrorist organisations

The President’s Office has published a revised list of terrorist organisations and conflict zones.

The President’s Office first published the list in 2019. At the time, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said the list was finalised following counsel from the National Security Council and that the list would enable the government to mitigate acts of terrorism in the country.

The list includes 19 terrorist organisations, which are Islamic State (ISIL/ISIS), Al-Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra (Jabhat Fatah al-Sham or Al-Nusra Front), Lashkar-e-Taiba, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, Abu Sayyaf Group, Boko Haram, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami, Jaish-e-Mohammed, ISIS Khorasan Province (Wilayah Khorasan), National Thowheeth Jama'ath, Jamat Millat-e-Ibrahim, Wilayah al Seylani, Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, and Hurras al-Din. The list also includes all parts of Syria as a conflict zone.

The list, which was compiled under clause 18b of the Anti-terrorism Act, will be closely observed by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) with counsel from the National Security Council.
