Success of reforms can be measured by peace and harmony: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said the success of reforms can be measured by the level of peace and harmony that exists within society, and that changes imposed through disruption and violence do not result in peace and stability. He made the remark in an address given on the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence.

In his message, President Solih said the goal of celebrating the International Day of Non-Violence is to work towards social and political changes while avoiding violence and injustice. He said that the people want positive reforms and that this cannot be accomplished through power and brute force.

The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who is the leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. The day is an occasion to disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness, according to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution which established the commemoration. The resolution reaffirms the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence and the desire to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding, and non-violence.

To commemorate the day, the Ministry of Home Affairs presented President Solih with a badge.
