The Maldives Bureau of Statistics has stated that fieldwork for Census 2022 has concluded for all regions except the Greater Male’ Region as there are still 900 households and businesses that enumerators have yet to access.
Enumerators have been so far unable to collect the census data for locked areas or places for which the owners are unreachable by phone. They were also unable to meet the scheduled appointment on some occasions. The bureau stated that some areas might be vacant and that teams are currently working on contacting the owners. It urged the public to provide details on the households and establishments by calling the hotline.
Furthermore, the bureau has decided not to publish the temporary results of the census on October 6 and to publish the full report on October 20. The nationwide census is conducted every 10 years to assess the situation of the country and collect information to facilitate the planning of future projects.
