Maldives signs management service agreement with ICAO

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has signed a Management Service Agreement (MSA) with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The MSA is a framework agreement to facilitate prospective technical cooperation projects involving ICAO’s Technical Cooperation Bureau (TCB) and Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA). ICAO-TCB assists member states to enhance their civil aviation systems and capacity by facilitating access to voluntary funds from international donors.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and Secretary General of ICAO Juan Carlos Salazar. Minister Nahula signed the agreement on the sidelines of the ICAO general assembly. She also met with delegations of various countries. As such, she held bilateral discussions with the head of the delegation of Turkey, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Enver İskurt, who agreed to sign the proposed General Transport Cooperation Agreement at the earliest possible opportunity.

Additionally, Minister Nahula and Federal Minister of Aviation of Nigeria Hadi Sirika held bilateral discussions on areas of mutual cooperation and collaboration between the two countries. Both the ministers stressed the importance of improving air connectivity, and technical knowledge transfer on seaplane operations and agreed to work towards an agreement on safety investigations, in addition to initiating air services negotiations between the two countries.
